A Chapter of the American Institute of Architects

The 2015 American Institute of Architects, San Joaquin Chapters Sandcastle Competition took place at Clovis Fest this past Saturday.

The theme this year was the “Best of Clovis” .

The winners for Judges Award was Darden Architects, Inc. Darden Architects went for a mash-up of iconic Clovis imagery with the Pickup Truck and Cowboy Hat. Also it was important to honor the memory of the late Dr. Floyd B. Buchanan; They accomplished this by carving his motto “Sic ‘em” into the hat-band.

The winners for People’s Choice Award was College of Sequoias Team Two. The design illustrates a train, the Clovis water tower, Sierra Mountains and an old town Clovis façade.

The San Joaquin Chapter of the American Institute of Architects invites you to engage in the 2015 3rd Quarter issue of our redesigned newsletter, titled ARCH.

This is a quarterly publication with articles and commentary revolving around current AIASJ and Industry events.

If you are interested in contributing content or advertising, or if you have questions / comments concerning the newsletter, please contact AIA San Joaquin at

Before even beginning to design, architects look up. It's the very first step in envisioning what could be. An architect's unique perspective and approach to his or her work inspires us all. We have only to look up to see the contributions of architects present in our everyday lives. Look up and be inspired. Take a photo of the architecture that inspires you and post it on social media with #ilookup to join the community.
